How to Do Oil Pulling

How to Do Oil Pulling

Oil pulling involves swishing oil around in one's mouth to remove bodily toxins. It is reported to help alleviate skin disorders, gum diseases and other ailments. It's simple and requires only cold-pressed sunflower or sesame oil, so even if you are skeptical, it couldn't hurt to give it a try. Read on to learn how.

Things You'll Need:

Cold-Pressed Sunflower or Sesame Oil

Refined Sesame or Sunflower Oil (if Cold-Pressed Oil can't be found)

1

Brush your teeth.

2

Do this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

3

Measure out 1 tablespoon of oil.

4

Place the oil in your mouth and begin to swish it around slowly like mouthwash. Make sure to pull it through your teeth as well. It is believed that the swishing activates enzymes that will pull toxins out of the blood.

5

Swish for 15-20 minutes. This might seem like a long time, but you can pass the time by doing this while you go through your normal morning routine.

6

Tilt your head back as you swish. This will help the oil get all the way back to your molars.

7

Do not swallow the oil. Oil pulling practitioners believe the oil is now toxic. It won't hurt you to swallow it. After all, any toxins in the oil were already in your body. But it will negate the 15-20 minutes of swishing you just completed.

8

Spit the oil out, preferably into the toilet. It should be thin and white. If it is still yellow, you should try swishing longer next time. If you choose to spit into the sink, thoroughly clean the sink afterward.

9

Rinse and clean your mouth out thoroughly with tap water and your fingers. Or brush your teeth again.

Tips & Warnings

Check health food stores for the oil.

Oil pulling is best done in the morning before breakfast. If you wish to attempt to accelerate the effects, you can swish up to three times a day. Just be sure to do so on an empty stomach each time.

Depending on your ailment and overall health, you could see results anywhere from 2 days later to a year later.
